Shasta works with writers in a coaching and editorial capacity on fiction and creative nonfiction (memoir, essays) projects. Whether you’re just getting started with an idea for a novel, trying to polish up a short story for submission, or ready for a developmental edit on your memoir manuscript, she can help! (If you write poetry, she recommends Chloe). Shasta’s feedback takes a nurturing approach, balancing thoughtful, holistic comments with encouragement.

  • Individual coaching meetings will nurture your creativity, boost your confidence, and help you overcome any writing blocks or obstacles you’re encountering. In these sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about the literary landscape, about craft elements, as well as brainstorm ideas, and discuss your writing goals and actionable steps to achieving them. Shasta will become a sounding board and partner in your writing journey. All coaching calls are 30 minutes and take place via Zoom or telephone. Email support is available between sessions.

  • We all need a good editor to help take our writing to the next level. Shasta will delve into a draft of your writing to discover its strengths and weaknesses, and provide insightful suggestions for revision. The feedback will be comprehensive - including comments in the margins and an editorial letter (ranging from 2-20 pages depending on the length of your project - whether it’s an individual story/essay or a full-length manuscript) - and provide actionable feedback you can use as a revision roadmap. The detailed editorial letter will address areas such as voice, tone, point of view, characterization, narrative arc/plot, structure, and setting.

Work with Chloe as your private writing coach. She will encourage your creativity and enthusiasm for writing while helping you to build a regular practice, reveal the story you want to tell, strengthen your own voice and style and revise pieces to completion. She can help you with line edits, larger developmental edits, ordering and submissions.

She works with poets, memoirists and essayists. For fiction projects, she recommends Shasta.

  • Beginner

Chloe can help you to structure and deepen your practice from notes or a journal to revised poems or essays. In response to your drafts, she’ll offer you written feedback that helps you to both strengthen your voice and style and complete work that you might consider submitting for publication. She will also offer you prompts and reading lists (creative and craft books) to help you to develop your individualized course of study.

    Some Experience / Published

If you’ve been writing for a while, Chloe will read your drafts and offer feedback on both the micro and macro level. She will consider the structure or form of your pieces and how they fit together into a larger manuscript. Chloe will help you to organize your work, including ordering poems or essays, or material for a larger creative non-fiction project and for submissions. Part of this process will include implementing a schedule with deadlines.

The cost will depend on your goals and experience. Email Chloe with your goals and experience, up to 10 – 15 pages of poems or double-spaced creative non-fiction prose, and any questions you hope to address in coaching sessions. After reviewing your work, you’ll schedule a free 20-minute consultation over Zoom. During your consultation, you will develop a plan together to submit work to Chloe, receive written feedback and meet to discuss your work (or some combination of these options, depending on your experience and needs.)

Chloe charges $200.00 an hour, which includes the time it takes to review your submissions (after the free consultation.) Usually, she can read 8-15 pages of prose or 5-8 pages of poems in about half an hour and then meet with you over zoom for one hour. Your submissions will be due a week before your meeting time. You’ll receive written feedback before your meeting so that you can review it first and arrive with questions.

If you are working on a longer project, she’s happy to consider your project and offer you a per-project estimated cost.

Your meeting times will be personalized. You might meet weekly, every other week, monthly or occasionally. In general, she is available between 9 – 4 pm EST, but can make some evening or weekend times available as necessary.

If this is cost prohibitive for you, please ask her about her sliding scale.
